Washington cottage food label rules
What has to be on the label when you sell homemade baked goods in Washington, and the limits that matter at a market. Checked September 2026.
Your label must include
Required statement
“Made in a Home Kitchen that has not been subject to standard inspection criteria.”
Statement must be printed in at least the equivalent of 11-point type in a color that provides a clear contrast to the background of the label. Products must be prepackaged; for large cakes or bulk containers, WSDA may allow a product label sheet given to the consumer instead. Each label must be submitted with the application.

Set up this label once. Print it for every cookie.
BakersKeep builds your Washington label from each recipe: ingredients in order, allergens and the required statement. Change a recipe and every label updates. It also prices your cookies, takes pre-orders and writes the week’s posts.
This page is general information, not legal advice. Rules change and counties can add their own. Confirm with Washington State Department of Agriculture (WSDA), Food Safety Program before you print. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
