Missouri cottage food label rules
What has to be on the label when you sell homemade baked goods in Missouri, and the limits that matter at a market. Checked September 2026.
Your label must include
Required statement
No exact statement is set by law here.
No exact wording is prescribed. RSMo 196.298.4 requires the name and address of the operation and ‘a statement that the food is not inspected by the department or local health department.’ Safe phrasing that tracks the statute: ‘This food is not inspected by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services or the local health department.’ Secondary sources cite a DHSS-suggested version: ‘This product is home-produced and processed and the production area has not been inspected by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.’ No font size rule.

Set up this label once. Print it for every cookie.
BakersKeep builds your Missouri label from each recipe: ingredients in order, allergens and the required statement. Change a recipe and every label updates. It also prices your cookies, takes pre-orders and writes the week’s posts.
This page is general information, not legal advice. Rules change and counties can add their own. Confirm with Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services (DHSS); local health departments may not regulate these operations before you print. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
